I’d like to tell you about a letter I read in the course of my research that stuck with me. It doesn’t really have a lot of “big picture” significance and I’m not using it in my book. But I can’t stop thinking about it and so I thought you might be interested as well.
My first thought was to what a range of character the Adams men displayed, from this historical brilliance of the Johns to the tribulations of the other brothers. I knew about Charles' problems, but I diid not know anything about Thomas until I read this, nor that the disposition for alcohol descended from Abigail's gene pool. My second thought, as I pondered these brothers comparing their experience, was how fortunate they were to live centuries before social media. That woulda killed both of the non-Johns even faster. 🤪
To your point, the great people we read about today would not have achieved legendary status if not for the common folks that put them there.
Loved the story. I think readers should be reminded, every now and then, about some of the others who lived alongside the "names."

Hey Lindsay, Being just an average bloke myself, I really loved your piece! Thank you
Love this.
Wow , thank you
Tremendous thoughts
Insightful. I wonder what JQA thought of his younger brother and what their relationship was truly like.
A very poignant read .
