Imperfect Union Q3 Update
Some of my favorite things you might have missed...
Hi everyone! When you signed up for Imperfect Union (or Spot of Parchment before that), I promised that I’d only send one email per month. I don’t plan to break that promise too often, but I did start another “section” on my newsletter. I’ve received some feedback from readers that they would like another way to stay up-to-date on content they might have missed. So, here’s my idea: every quarter, I’ll send out a report with some of the article I wrote, podcasts I recorded, and events I have coming up. Just in case you missed the updates at the bottom of the emails or want a reminder. If you don’t want to receive this update, I totally understand! I think you you should be able unsubscribe from just this portion below. If you are interested, you don’t need to do anything and it should be delivered directly to your inbox! So without further adieu, here are some updates from the past few months and events coming up.
Technically, this article on Bulwark came out today, on October 1, but I’m proud of it and the history shocked me as I was researching the details. I think you might find the parallels surprising as well.

Then, I finally get to go to a book festival in person! If you live in Kentucky or nearby, be sure to join me on November 6 for the Kentucky Book Festival!
My favorite announcement was the release date (February 8, 2022) for the paperback of The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution. At $17.95, I’m hopeful the price point will make it accessible for classrooms, book clubs, and more, so if you know anyone who might be interested, please spread the word!
I only have the Amazon preorder link at the moment, but I’ll share the others as well once they are available!
In podcast new, the podcast that I host with the Center for Presidential History, The Past, The Promise, The Presidency, will be returning October 7 with Season 2: Presidential Crises. We have a great lineup ready to go and I’m really excited to share these episodes with you. You can find them where you listen to your podcasts.
